Three New Interior Design Trends in 2024 for Your Property

With each new year comes a number of emerging interior design trends and 2024 is no different. Taking inspiration from the latest fashion and European holidays, we’re already seeing several key trends starting to take shape this year.

So, if you’re looking for some inspiration to help you breathe new life into your home this year, we’re bringing you three interior design trends we’re expecting to see take off in 2024.

Beach-style resort living

Who’d have thought that a global pandemic could inspire a new interior design trend?! Coastal-inspired trends are often a staple of interior design, but in 2024, beach-style resort living is gaining traction thanks to the influx of international travel in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Designers and homeowners alike are drawing inspiration from their travels through Europe and the abundance of rich colours and textures seen in that part of the world. It’s predicted that shades like chai, terracotta and honeycomb will feature heavily throughout this style. In addition, textures, like Venetian plaster, wood, stone and rattan, are also key to achieving the Euro beach resort look.

Not only will these colours and textures feature throughout interior decoration, but they’ll also play an important role when it comes to structural features. For instance, we’re seeing a lot of stylists incorporating these design elements in bathrooms in particular when trying to achieve the ‘spa-like’ aesthetic that beach-style resort living is known for.

Beach-style resort living is all about creating a space that is as beautiful as it is functional. When you embrace this style, you want your home to feel like an escape from the outside world while still offering an inviting, warm and comfortable atmosphere.

It comes as no great surprise that beach-style resort living works well on the Sunshine Coast. With many locals and homeowners aiming to encapsulate that ‘holiday feel’ within their style, taking inspiration from the beach-style report living trend is a great way to put a fresh, new twist on a coastal-inspired look.

Modern Memphis

Another key trend that’s already starting to take shape this year is the Modern Memphis movement. While we’ve noticed Modern Memphis interior taking off in some of the major cities, we’ve also completed a handful of projects recently that are sourcing inspiration from this once popular trend. First initiated by the Memphis Milano group in the 1980s, Modern Memphis interior design blends Art Deco with pop art. Now, almost 40 years later this style is making a comeback, albeit with a slightly paired back approach.

Characterised by bold colours, geometric shapes and unconventional patterns, the Modern Memphis style takes inspiration from this movement while incorporating it into a more updated and refined aesthetic. As we saw in 2023, the introduction of curves has started to take over when it comes to furniture, art and decor choices.

In 2024, the reimagined Modern Memphis trend is embracing colours like sage, cream and rose. We’re also expecting to see art-inspired rooms which incorporate a burst of colour into the furniture and decorations. Quirky and playful accessories like sculptural lamps, abstract art pieces and asymmetrical furniture are ideal for adding personality to the space.

When it comes to the new Modern Memphis movement, minimalism is out and maximalism is in. If you’re keen to try your hand at embracing the Modern Memphis style, it can be helpful to start with a neutral base and slowly add to your collection of bold decor, homewares and furniture. Inject pops of vibrant colours throughout your space by incorporating accent walls, furniture upholstery, throw pillows, rugs and artwork. Look for eye-catching geometric shapes like circles, triangles, squares and zigzags. You can even mix and match different patterns for a dynamic and visually stimulating effect.

Casual contemporary

One emerging interior design trend that’s taking its cues from the fashion industry is the casual contemporary movement. This style has been shaped by the ‘it girl trend’ that first began back in 2023.

This design approach encompasses neutral colour palettes with subtle pops of colour, such as twilight blue or pastel shades. Unlike Modern Memphis, casual contemporary style is all about embracing clean looks and minimalism.

Casual contemporary interior design blends elements of contemporary style with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It incorporates clean lines, minimalist aesthetics and modern furnishings, but with a more laid-back approach compared to strict contemporary design.

Casual contemporary spaces prioritise comfort, so you’ll often find plush sofas, oversized chairs and cozy rugs that encourage you to lounge and relax in the space. It also incorporates a mix of materials like wood, metal, glass and natural fabrics. This helps to add depth and visual interest to the design while maintaining a cohesive look.

Casual contemporary interiors often feature open floor plans that promote easy flow and connectivity between different living spaces. This helps to enhance the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of your home.

The casual contemporary style really compliments the Noosa lifestyle that we all know and love, especially when it’s mixed with a touch of coastal design elements. Thanks to its simple and minimalist approach, creating your own casual contemporary space is easy. Start with a neutral color palette that features warm tones like beige, taupe, grey and cream as the foundation of your space. From here, you can add depth and dimension to your home by layering different textures throughout, including smooth leather, cozy textiles, natural timbers and sleek metal to create visual contrast and tactile appeal. Ultimately, you want to keep it simple by minimising clutter and focusing on furnishings with sleek, clean lines.
